Any trainer must consider as of great importance the introduction of a certain physical schedule for the dog. Exercising certain dog training techniques during a precise schedule isn’t enough. Letting your dog run wild on his own in the backyard or destroying your furniture or clothes isn’t describing a firm training example. A great opportunity to fortify your dog’s physical shape is to walk him.

An important aspect here is using a leash. When using a leash while walking your dog, be sure to always keep moving: this is the point of a great exercise. And be sure to use the leash to stop your dog from certain behaviors: sniffing, relieving on lawns or poles, etc. And you should teach the dog not to pull the leash when you are walking him. It’s important to teach him to walk close to you and not chase smaller animals or bikes, etc. Open areas require the use of a retractable leash. This will give the dog more space for its actions. He won’t pull the leash and he will move more freely. Extended periods of exercises, long walks are the best thing for your dog. The older and larger the dog, the longer the walks. Active dogs need about 20 or more minutes walks because they don’t tire out so fast. Other dog breeds, old or less active will require shorter walking periods.

Another aspect that you should consider while walking your dog is meeting other dogs along the walk. Not all dogs are friendly with eachother. Some may get aggresive when your dog will rush up to them, others will get scared and hide behind their owners. You should not consider your dog as a violent pet and blame him for this. Training your dog in a way that he behaves friendly in the company of other humans and pets is your goal.

When walking you dog, all bad dog behaviors will be avoided, not to mention that your dog’s health and your own will be improved. Never deny your dog the contact with other dogs, as long as they are friendly. When taking walks with your dog, you can meet other people that are doing the same thing as you do. So why not introduce your dog and create a dog play group with other dog owners that you meet? As a conclusion, “walking the dog” has a double benefit for both you and your dog. It helps him familiarize with other environments elements or persons, a chance to explore the surroundings and exercise. It gives you an opportunity to meet people who have same interests as you.

The dog clicker training is a common method used by many trainers to condition their pets to get a certain behavior and follow it with a reward. It is intended to associate the click noise with the reward for a good behavior.

Let’s think of a practical example. Opportunities to train your dog, even in the puppy stage, are endless. Your puppy has a natural reaction to his surroundings, sniffing around stuff, sitting up when looking at you, lying down in his dog bed, etc. If you decide to start using this method of training, the best way to begin is by using the clicker when rewarding your puppy with a treat. He will actually come to you when he hears the click, because he’s anxious to get a treat. Don’t give it to him yet. As soon as he calms down and sits, quickly use the clicker and reward him with a treat. This “sit” command will take a while to be achieved but it will save you a lot of trouble later when your dog starts chasing people or cats.

If you use any more complex training instructions, you will have to use the clicker step by step. More exactly, if you want to teach your dog how to drop and roll, you should use the clicker a few times during this exercise: when the dog drops down to the ground, when he starts rolling, and when he finishes. And of course, another click when you give him a reward. If your dog learns the procedure, you can eventually leave out the first clicks and only click when you reward him.

The dog clicker training is also used to resolve some unwanted behaviors a dog might have. If he tends to run after other dogs or cats on the street, use the clicker as a signal to stop him and focus on you. Eventually, this bad behavior will disappear. You don’t have to use violent or constraining measures, you don’t have to hit your dog, you don’t have to shout to him. A few clicks will do the job for you. If a clicker isn’t a good tool to use for your dog, you can replace it with other tools, either visual (flash pens) or audible (whistle), etc.

Housebreaking a puppy isn’t something done achieved really fast and successfully. You must prepare yourself with patience and love and it will require some items too. Using a leash isn’t enough. Your goal is to achieve a proper potty training for your pup. You have to observe his toilet training issues and correct them.

The best “bribe” for this kind of training is using the common treats and repeating this until the puppy is prevented from making potty mistakes. A puppy is a small in size and loves merely the indoor environment. It’s best to grant him a special place in or near the house. In that place, be sure to put a crate or some kind of kennel, with space, not a lot of extra room, plenty of air and visibility. You can start paper-potty training your puppy by placing some paper in the proximity of the kennel or crate. Eventually, the puppy will learn that the right place to potty is on the special paper area and not in the kennel or crate.

You should start by setting a daily schedule for this. Most breed puppies need to go outdoor every couple of hours. Wait for your pup to wake up and using a leash, take him outdoor right away. Use some vocal commands to encourage him to potty. Be patient and wait for him to eliminate.

Setting up a daily schedule isn’t enough. You must observe your pup’s movements and actions. Most puppies like to leave their scent all over the place. If your puppy is getting ready to eliminate somewhere else, pick him up and place him to the paper area. Set up a feeding schedule for your puppy, consulting a vet about this. After your feed or you play with your puppy, take him out for walks. Before bedtime, take a last walk. Eventually, the pup will understand the routine and recognize the potty place you assigned for him.

Don’t deny him the freedom. Puppies like to run around from place to place in the house or outside. Let them do that. But pay attention when they want to go potty.

If he eventually gets familiarized with the crate, you can put him in it and move the crate in your bedroom during the night.

Talking about the relationship between humans and their dogs, one of the biggest goals to achieve should be a perfect mutual communication.

In order to begin this relationship, the owner should learn to understand his dog. After all, communicating means the use of a “language” that’s equally understood by both parts.

Before using this language, you must acknowledge that each dog is one of a kind: his personality is unique and fascinating. Some of them are stubborn and fairly hard to train, so communication will take another turn. Others will be lazy or too small to do demanding exercises, so you should understand that too.

After their uniqueness, you should consider that most dog breeds were trained to do specific jobs. These jobs could affect their behavior as familiar pets. Many breeds are familiarized with taking orders from humans; others are independent. Some breeds were specialized to use their sight power, others use their smell to hunt or discover items. Many are trained to respond for long periods of time and they should take long exercise sessions, others have breed bursts of activity and settle in fatigue rather fast.

Then ones that are trained to guard or to herd have a “stiff” behavior. They are somewhat obsessed at first, they might bite and they have a need to control the environment, no matter what. They could target small children or passing by objects or even retrieve items. Taking into account the various behaviors dog have, you should decide the things they would perform in the best.

Another thing to mention is the fact that many dog mixed breeds are often subjected to common errors. They are misunderstood, especially because of their behavior. The best advice is to get a more popular breed, one that is known for its cooperation or communication response. So, starting a communication with your dog should be fairly easy. Start with simple commands that are meant to help the dog understand your language better. Then, judging all the features your dog has, you can observe the problematic factors and the behavior of your dog, and you can take a decision upon it.

Only then, will you be able to start a proper training, exercises, use commands and stimulate your dog’s actions. And before all, you should stress in your mind the following phrase: “I can’t completely erase the instinctive behaviors some dog breeds have, but I can understand, control and change them”.

The basic training of a dog must be understood as a group of techniques, commands and motivating actions ment to encourage your dog to respond to them accordingly. Commands like “sit”, “stay”, “walk”, “come”, “jump up” etc will be used to familiarize the dog with the new training environment, and these are the first steps: it’s the basic training. These training exercises and commands don’t require a certain age for the dog: a healthy dog is the perfect candidate.

It is important to start the training when the dogs are young, in the puppy stage. It’s known that puppies have a tendency to better respond to the training after 9 weeks of life. They will be taught easy exercises during this period and the leash isn’t recommended now.

Exercises and commands will have a multiple steps duration and multiple simultaneous commands are best. They should fall into a precise and delimited training schedule, broken into 3-4 week periods, followed by progress evaluation tests. These tests are ment to sum up the practiced techniques, not the precision or detail. In this way, any flaws or mistakes will be aknowledged and corrected.

During a week’s period, all training exercises could be done before feeding your dog, about 10 minutes long. It all depends on the dog’s age. Puppies can’t last too long, so a 15min period isn’t recommended for them. Older dogs, active and playful in nature, tend to calm down and start concentrating after 15 minutes.

The best way to efficiently traing a puppy or a dog is to include these commands and training actions during your daily life. Watching TV or talking walks are great opportunities to exercise the training, or make the dog focus on you.

Having guests come over is another great opportunity. Using the leash and the “sit-stay” command when the visitors enter inside the house is the perfect example. The puppy will accompany you around on a leash and it will accomodate to the new environments and humans it comes in contact with. If it tends to bite or bark people or even its own leash, it’s best to strongly negate his action with a command and remove the leash from its mouth.

Another important aspect for the basic training is the use of treats. Small in size, they depend on the dog or the given situation. An attractive treat has a powerful motivational effect.

Probably the most famous collie in history is Lassie. I doubt seriously that there is anybody who hasn’t heard of Lassie. In the Lassie Come Home movie and in the TV series, Lassie was so smart that she appeared to be a thinking and reasoning human in a dog suit. Everybody who has ever seen the movie or a series episode probably wishes that they could have a dog just like Lassie. Lassie must have saved Tommy’s life a hundred times!

Learn to train your canine friend like a pro:

Like every other collie ever born, however, Lassie was born into this world without any skills at all. She wasn’t housebroken, and she had no idea what obedience was. She certainly didn’t know any tricks, who Tommy was, or how to save him on camera. She was trained! Everything that you see Lassie do on the screen, she is doing because she is being TOLD what to do. She does it because she has been trained.

Also please check out:

Collies really are a smart breed of dogs. Because they are so smart, collies are easily trained. The training that you choose to give your collie puppy will be the determining factor of just how well behaved and how many commands that your collie understands. You can have a wonderful and loving pet that is well trained without spending 24 hours a day for two years on training. You can even have a dog like Lassie — IF you have the time, patience, and techniques to train your collie.

Most collie owners are perfectly happy to have a dog that just knows basic obedience, but other collie owners are drawn to the show ring, agility, rally, obedience, therapy work in hospitals, and more! What your collie can do is limited only by the time, patience, and training that you provide!

Remember to see:

The AKC version of a collie is not the same as the collie that you know as Lassie. The dogs that play Lassie are bred to be bigger than the AKC standard. The AKC Collie breed is smaller and lighter by 10 to 15 pounds, and the standard for markings is different as well.

The Dog training treats method is used together with a lot of praising for something the Dog has learned and done well. The dog training device that you choose needs to fit with not only the type of behavior you are trying to change, but with your dogs size, temperament, and your personal belief in dog training techniques. The dog training Los Angeles center is also useful if your dog/puppy is suffering behavioral problems. There are specialized trainers available that use novel methods to overcome the problem.
