The Bichon Frisé (french name for “curly lap dog”), also named Bichon à poil frisé or Bichon Tenerife, has its origins, apparently, in the ancient times of 500-300 B.C. This breed was firstly named Barbichon. The breed was located in the Mediterranean area and was later divided in four breed categories: the Bichon Bolognaise, the Bichon Malteise, the Bichon Tenerife and the Bichon Havanese. Later on, this breed was seen as working bot dog in the Spanish fleet, as water retrievers. They are mainly featured as circus dogs, due to their high learning abilities.

The Bedlington Terrier, also called Rothbury Terrier or Rodbery Terrier, has its origins in the regions of England, more precise, the parts of Rothbury, where it was brought by some nail makers from Staffordshire. This breed was mainly used to hunt rodents and to help the other foxhound breeds in that region. They were later brought to the Ireland regions.

The Beagle

It is said that a similar looking dog to the actual Beagle originates from the Ancient Greek times (the 5th century). Later on, this breed was brought by William the Conqueror in the regions of Great Britain. The Beagle was a distractive entertainer to royal tables in the English queens and kings. Starting with the 18th century, the Beagle was used as a rabbit hunter. They survived the last centuries and were brought to the USA in the late 1840, still for the same purpous of hunting. The name Beagle derives from the french word begueule, used to either describe the small size of the breed or the peculiar face expression.

The Basset Hound originates in France, possibly in the 1600s. It was mainly used as a hunting dog, specialized in scenting the prey. “Basset” means “rather low” in French.
