The Anatolian Shepherd Dog has a lot of appelatives: Karabash Dog, Kangal Dog, Coban Kopegi. This breed originates from the region of Anatolia, situated in central Turkey. They come from a descending path of over 6000 years, from the Mesopotamia regions and were brought to the Turkey regions later on by migration, around 1000 A.D. They were mainly used as shepherd dogs (thus the name of coban kopegi). They were gradually brought by the British people and eventually accepted in the western regions.
